Job Announcement – Development Associate (10 hours/week)

About the Organization
The Shunpike is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that works to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with artists to more effectively present and distribute their work. Specifically, the organization provides business and administrative consulting services – including fundraising, marketing, financial management, strategic planning and board development – to emerging artists and arts organizations to help them be more effective and efficient in their organizational efforts. The Shunpike conducts three main programs:


  • The Partner Artists program, which serves new and emerging arts companies;
  • The Sustainable Organizations program, which provides specific infrastructure- or capacity-building services for small- to mid-size 501(c)3 arts organizations; and
  • Accountability & the Arts, a series of free workshops and discussion forums that promotes good business and administrative practices.

About the Position
This staff person will provide fundraising and grantwriting consulting services to The Shunpike’s clients, mainly those organizations in the Sustainable Organization program. Specific responsibilities will involve working with clients to identify their fundraising needs and goals; providing advice and training on fundraising and grantwriting techniques and practices; and writing grants for these organizations to specifically targeted funders. In addition, the Development Consultant may take part in fundraising and grantwriting activities for The Shunpike, and participate as a member of The Shunpike team in staff meetings and annual planning retreats.

The Development Associate is a quarter-time, 10 hours per week salaried position, starting at $15.38/hour. Work schedule is based on client availability and need; some evening and weekend work necessary. This staff member reports directly to the Programs Director.

Qualifications
Candidates must have the following skills and experience:


  • Experience successfully writing grants to public and/or private funding organizations
  • Knowledge of and experience in nonprofit fundraising techniques and practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work and communicate well with a wide variety of clients
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

The following skills and experiences are desired, but not required:


  • Knowledge of the Seattle arts community
  • Knowledge of local grantmaking organizations
  • Experience working with nonprofit arts organizations in an administrative capacity
  • Experience providing consulting and/or training on nonprofit business and administration
