Accountability and the Arts: A Public Forum

What is Accountability?
A Public Forum on Accountability and the Arts
Presented by The Shunpike

What does accountability mean to an artist, an arts organization, or an artistic community? To whom or to what are we accountable? How does or should our understanding of accountability guide our decisions?

The Shunpike invites you to discuss Accountability and the Arts at a public forum on April 4th, 2005 from 7pm to 9pm in Buster's at ACT Theatre.

The forum will take the form of an inquiry into the different questions the concept of accountability raises in the arts community, and will feature:

Roger Downey - Senior Editor, The Seattle Weekly
Jim Kelly - Director, 4Culture
Michael Killoren - Director, Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs
Allison Narver - Artistic Director, The Empty Space Theatre
Susan Trapnell - Managing Director, ACT Theatre.

The goals of the forum are to uncover and unpack the different ways that members of the arts community understand accountability, to uncover some of the key issues that face the Seattle arts community, and to enliven community discourse and strengthen community ties. This forum is open to the public, and all attendees are encouraged to actively participate in the discussion.

This event kicks off The Shunpike's Accountability and the Arts workshop series, which will follow-up the public forum with a series of workshops developed in part from the issues raised in the forum, an which aim at equipping artists with the skills they need to navigate the tricky waters of accountability.
