Posted on June 08, 2005

SEATTLE - The Shunpike is excited to announce the next installment of our “Accountability & the Arts” series. “To (C)3 or Not to (C)3?” is a workshop focused on the nuts and bolts, the ins and outs, the advantages and disadvantages of starting of a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. The workshop will be held Monday June 27th at 7pm in Buster’s at ACT Theatre.

“To (C)3 or Not to (C)3?” will be led by Putnam Barber, who has built a reputation as a visionary social entrepreneur, wise observer of nonprofits, and one of the most respected voices in the world of public benefit organizations. Barber will talk about the process of formal incorporation, some of the advantages and disadvantages of the incorporated non-profit model, and other alternatives that are available, such as for-profit incorporation or fiscal sponsorship.

Barber is a senior consultant to Executive Alliance, an association of nonprofit executive directors and supporters of the field. He is also the Chief Editor of the Nonprofit FAQ, which has been a widely cited encyclopedia of nonprofit knowledge since its inception in 1994. In 1990, he was the founding Executive Director of The Evergreen State Society, a nonprofit association of Washington State. Barber was a columnist for the Chronicle of Philanthropy and is the author of numerous influential articles on the sector. He was a Senior Advisor to Social Ecology, a past Director of the Washington State Office of Voluntary Action, and a past Executive Director of Cityclub.
