Accountability & the Arts: Finding Your Audience
You are cordially invited to join The Shunpike for the next installment of the “Accountability & the Arts” series on Monday August 1st at 7pm. “Finding Your Audience” will focus on the importance of and strategies for developing a marketing plan for individual artists and arts organizations.
Marketing is often the last thing we think about, the last thing we budget for, the last responsibility assigned, and yet it supports so much of what we do. And it boils down to strategy: trying to see ahead, envision your audience, and ask yourself the right questions.
The purpose of this workshop is to encourage artists and organizations to take marketing their work seriously, and as a result will go well beyond mere discussion of tips and techniques. The workshop will focus on developing a long-term strategy, including critical thinking about budget, message and tactics.
“Finding Your Audience” will be led by Cynthia Fuhrman, Director of Marketing and Communications for Seattle Repertory Theatre. Fuhrman joined the management team at Seattle Repertory Theatre in the summer of 2003. Starting at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 1981 as a public relations manager, Fuhrman has directed the public relations and marketing programs at OSF in Ashland, at StageWest in Massachusetts, and at Portland Center Stage in Portland, Oregon. As a consultant, she has aided non-profits in developing their marketing, fundraising, and board development programs.

The Accountability and the Arts series has been developed in support of The Shunpike’s mission to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with artists to more effectively present and distribute their work. The series launched in April with a public forum on the concept of accountability, and continued with a workshop discussing 501(c)3 incorporation in June.
