Accountability & the Arts: Cultivating Your Donors

Posted on November 17, 2005

SEATTLE - The Shunpike is excited to announce the next installment of their successful “Accountability & the Arts” series. The final workshop of the year will give emerging arts organizations the opportunity to learn about how to turn supporters into donors through strong relationships. Getting money from potential donors isn't always as easy as sending a letter or throwing a party. Attendees will learn about the art of “making the ask", long term donor cultivation strategies and donor relationship management practices. The workshop will be held Monday December 5th at 7pm in Buster’s at ACT Theatre.

The workshop is tailored to emerging arts organizations. It will be led by Roxanne Shepherd. A twenty-year veteran fundraiser, Ms. Shepherd came to ArtsFund in August, 1999. Shepherd secures cash and in-kind donations from businesses as well as sponsorships, and leads the team which recruits, trains and supports a volunteer fundraising cadre of 85 to 130 working in both King and Pierce Counties. This move followed five years of service to Overlake Hospital Medical Center, in Bellevue, WA, as the Executive Director of their Foundation and Auxiliaries, where the 9 person team she led consistently achieved or surpassed annual goalsToday, in addition to her work at ArtsFund, she's an active member of Bellevue Rotary, and a Bellevue Arts Commissioner.

The Accountability and the Arts series has been developed in support of The Shunpike’s mission to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with artists to more effectively present and distribute their work. The series launched in April with a public forum on the concept of accountability, and continued with a workshop discussing 501(c)3 incorporation in June.

The Shunpike - Mission & History

The Shunpike was founded in 2001 to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with artists to more effectively present and distribute their work. It focuses specifically on emerging artists and arts organizations, helping them negotiate the many administrative, business and production challenges inherent in making art and developing sustainable institutions. Since its inception, it has successfully supported the work of over 500 artists working in diverse media including live performance, film, literary arts, theatre, visual arts and arts education.
