Accountability and the Arts: On Budget
SEATTLE - The Shunpike is excited to announce the 2006 dates for its successful series, Accountability & the Arts. This series of workshops and presentations promotes good business, fundraising, and marketing practices for small- to mid-size arts organizations in the Seattle area. The first workshop - entitled "On Budget" and featuring Rebecca Sherr, General Manager of the Intiman Theatre - will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 7pm at ACT Theatre. RSVPs appreciated.
Last year, The Shunpike kicked off its Accountability & the Arts series with a public forum featuring ACT Theater Managing Director Susan Trapnell, Empty Space Artistic Director Allison Narver, Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs Director Michael Killoren, Seattle Weekly writer Roger Downey, and 4Culture Director Jim Kelly. This was followed by a series of workshops on fundraising, marketing, and board development featuring locally renowned leaders in each field.
The "On Budget" workshop will help attendees build skills in creating, managing and interpreting annual and project-specific budgets. Rebecca Sherr, General Manager at Intiman Theatre, returned to Intiman two seasons ago where she was previously on staff from 1997 to 2001 serving in a variety of capacities including Associate Managing Director. In between her tenures at Intiman, she held the position of Managing Director at Freehold Studio/Theatre Lab and worked for the New York Foundation as an Associate Program Officer. Prior to coming to Intiman, she worked for Seattle Opera for five seasons. Rebecca is also currently a member of Leadership Tomorrow's 2006 class.
In 2006, The Shunpike will continue to promote the development of sustainable arts organizations with more of these free workshops and seminars. The six scheduled seminars will be held on the following dates: February 21, April 3, June 5, August 7, October 2, and December 4, 2006.
The Accountability & the Arts series has been developed in support of The Shunpike’s mission to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with artists to more effectively present and distribute their work.
